Ethos

Credibility

Ethos appeals based on the trustworthiness of the speaker. Credibility is important in all papers you write. You need to have the reader's trust right from the start of the paper. Ethos deals the writer. Questions to ask yourself about the writer's ethos are: does this writer seem knowledgeable of his subject he is writing about? Can you trust that the information they are giving you is reliable?

Pathos

Emotion

Pathos is often associated with emotional appeal. Pathos causes an audience not just to respond emotionally but also to feel what the writer feels. Pathos deals with the audience. Questions to ask yourself about the writer's pathos are: Is the writer appealling to your emotions? Or are they using too many facts?

Logos

Logical

Logos appeals to logic, reasoning, and evidence. Giving reasons is what is key to all of your papers. It is what backs up what your thesis. Logos deals with the topic. Questions to ask yourself about the writer's logos are: Do the reasons back up the thesis? What ideas or reasons do they give to support the thesis?
